Anambra State Governor, Prof. Chukwuma Soludo has announced the launch of Operation ‘Udo G’achi’, a major security initiative aimed at restoring peace and order in the state.
The operation, which translates to “Peace Must Prevail”, is set to kick off anytime this week, with the governor assuring that it will be a significant step towards managing security in the state.
Speaking on the Sunrise morning show programme on Channels Television, Governor Soludo emphasized that insecurity is a nationwide issue, but the South-East region faces a unique challenge of “bare-faced criminality.”
He stressed that the launch of Operation ‘Udo G’achi’ will be followed by a second step, which involves mobilizing the people to recognize that the current security challenges are purely criminal in nature.
In addition to the launch of Operation ‘Udo G’achi’, Governor Soludo also threw his weight behind the call for the establishment of state police.
He argued that state police is an idea whose time has come, and that it is essential to try it out and improve on it, despite potential reservations and incidents of abuse.
The governor further emphasized the importance of local ownership of security, stressing that it is critical to solving the myriad security challenges facing Nigeria and Anambra State in particular.
PHe advocated for security to be localized, with the people taking ownership of their security, rather than maintaining a culture of silence .
With the launch of Operation ‘Udo G’achi’ imminent, the people of Anambra State can look forward to a renewed effort to combat insecurity and restore peace in the state.
