Drivers must be held accountable for unprofessional conduct – Igwe Achebe

The Obi of Onitsha, Igwe Alfred Achebe has assured the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) in Anambra State of his support and partnership.

He however called for greater public education aimed at drivers, particularly transport owners (fleet operators) to ensure they were held accountable for unprofessional conduct on the road.

The monarch welcomed the FRSC boss on behalf of the Onitsha community, acknowledging her as the 15th Sector Commander of the FRSC in the State.

While sharing his experiences with the Sector Commander, Achebe informed her of the meetings of traditional leaders to provide opportunities for her to address them.

He wished the Sector Commander an impactful and positive tenure that would benefit the people of Anambra.

Earlier, Commander Alexander expressed her gratitude for the warm reception and thanked the Igwe for his ongoing support of FRSC Anambra State.

She emphasized the mission of the FRSC, which remained reduction of road traffic crashes and creating a safe motoring environment.

She however noted that achieving the FRSC’s goal required collaboration with various stakeholders.

“To facilitate this collaboration, the FRSC engages in public enlightenment through various mediums and works closely with communities via their traditional rulers,” she stated.

While intimating the Royal Father of the theme for the 2024 Ember Months Safety Campaign: “Speak Up Against Dangerous Driving: Crashes Kill More Passengers than Drivers.” Alexander urged him to advocate for road safety within his community.
