Nteje Indigenes in Diaspora have expressed dissatisfaction with illegal activities of land grabbing, extortion disobedience to elders and other vices among youths in the community.
They urged the youths to turn a new leaf this year by coming out from bush where they engage in such nefarious activities and embark on meaningful projects.
Making the appeal at their chairman’s residence, Comrade Jude Achebe, during a get together party, at Nteje, Oyi Local Government Area, Anambra State, they warned that such illegalities would worsen their condition if they refused to repent.
In the words of their chairman who also doubles as the National President of Human Dignity Restoration Association, (HDRA), “I call on Governor Chukwuma Soludo to do something so that the youths will curtail their involvement in crimes like land grabbing, kidnapping, thuggery, extortion, disobedience to elders and laws of the land.
“We demand that the youths should come out from the bush and engage in meaningful projects and Soludo should create enabling environment for them because an idle mind is the devil’s workshop.
“The problem we are having is that our leaders only listen to us during political electioneering campaigns. If Government says crime will stop, it will stop. If crime lasts for 48 hours that means the government is involve. If you can’t solve people’s problems that means you are not a government.
“In London where I reside laws work, if you break traffic rules the law will catch up with you. You don’t need the police or security operatives to pursue you. The camera will identify you and you pay your fine.
“When former governor Obiano was in power kidnappers’ houses were demolished to serve as deterrent to future offenders and this is what we expect from governor Soludo. Soludo should make Anambra State uncomfortable for criminals.”
Contributing, his vice, in Diaspora, Ezechukwu Nonso, condemned the continuous stay of youths in the bush adding that the essence of the get together is for them to see themselves physically and know how to move the community forward since they only interact through WhatsApp.
“The youths should come out of bush and stop selling people’s land. In social media we advised the youths to come out from bush as it will not help them. I ask them why are you selling people’s land.We are ready to assist them and we have been helping the poor. The other time we paid #600000, hospital bill of someone who was set ablaze,” he stated
A farmer who resides in Mozambique, Nwafor Amala Isaac, disclosed that the youths claimed there is money in the bush and he disagreed with them because they engage in illegality.
“If you think being in the bush will make you to progress it is false. You must come out from bush and we assist you in having a meaningful project to embark upon. We have this get together to assist you, youths,” he affirmed.
Chukwuka Nebolisa, (a.k.a. Igwe Angola), said, “We want to help the youths as so many youths are unemployed, selling land and committing other atrocities which we don’t want. We will help those in need if they stop selling land,” he assured.
An elder to those in Diaspora Chinedu Odili, stated that, “We will bring down those good things we get in Diaspora to Nteje so that the youths will benefjt from it so long they come out of bush.
“Before know Igbo are known for farming but our youths want quick money that will not lead them to anywhere. Bad company is also cause of land grabbing and other illegalities youths engaged themselves into now,” he disclosed
According to Friday Echebi, who is based in Kuwait, “We ask the youths to come out from the bush and walk on the road because if everybody lives in the bush there will be no road. We are ready to assist and that is why we have this get together.
“Living in the bush will not help us to grow, our people need to develop their community. It is unfortunate that people decide to earn a living from bush, land grabbing,” he lamented.
Lawrence Ikechelu, stressed the need for all to be hard working adding that it will curtail sale of people’s land adding that Igbo are known for their entrepreneurship all over the world.
According to him, the lazy youths are the ones in the bush but the hardworking ones are out there fighting to survive through meaningful projects.
