A 20-year-old man, Chukwuezugo Igweobi, was arraigned before an Amawbia Chief Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday for allegedly possessing a locally made gun.

Prosecutor ASP Aduaka Achunike told the court that Igweobi was arrested by police on July 23, 2024, along Awka-Amansea Road, Awka, Anambra State.

According to Achunike, Igweobi was found with a locally made double-barreled pistol gun and one live ammunition without a licence from the Inspector General of Police.

When questioned about the source of the pistol, Igweobi reportedly failed to provide a satisfactory explanation, leading to his arrest.

Achunike stated that the offense contravenes Section 27(1) (b) (v) of the Firearms Act Cap F 28 Laws of the Federal Republic of Nigeria 2004.
