He urged them to give their best to ensure the protection of lives and property of residents of the community, and to ensure the promotion of peace and harmonious coexistence.

Obinze, an experienced administrator, and former President General of Onitsha Bridge Head Market, tasked the committee to work harmoniously with members of community’s vigilante group, now “Agunechemba,” to ensure that Governor Charles Soludo’s intention of conceiving the Homeland Security Law, which is to nip insecurity in the bud, is achieved.

He assured the security committee of unalloyed commitment of the town union towards their welfare, and providing them with necessary tools to make their works a lot easier.

The town union also unveiled a security initiative to check activities of criminal elements in the area. The initiative, according to the PG, is the installation of giant security gates at three strategic entrance/exit points in the town. The gates, which the President General said would gulp about three million naira (N3,000,000), will be manned by well motivated operatives.

Other bodies, which the town union unveiled same day are Health Committee and Land Committee.

Members of the Land Committee as announced by the President General include: Mike Ekwealor, Alloy Emenike, Amechi Edoziuno, Godwin Nweke, Nwannennia Emenike, among others.

The PG, who announced his plans to revive the community’s health clinic, said that functional dispensory will be put in place; while provision will also be made for a visiting doctor to handle health needs of residents of the area.

The town union president, who had earlier in the meeting, announced the dessolusion of previously existing committees, said that the essence of the dessolusion and subsequent raising of new committees with new memberships is to inject fresh vigour and expertise into his administration.

While commending the traditional ruler of the town, His Majesty, Igwe Simon Obidike, for his avowed support for his administration; Chief Obinze also beconed on his former opponents to rally round his government to move the town forward; adding that without unity, no community can make meaningful progress.
