Anambra State government has warned that native doctors found guilty of being quacks or criminals would be subjected to the full force of the law.

The warning came during the 3rd meeting of the Anambra State Executive Council (ANSEC).

According to a statement by Commissioner for Information, Dr Law Mefor, the Council reiterated that Government was documenting practitioners of traditional medicine (native doctors) and not registering or granting them practice certificates.

It noted that Council also approved requests from certain communities for government to take over their community secondary schools, which they had built and maintained, as well as upgrade the schools to the level of the state’s public secondary schools, integrate their teachers into the teaching workforce, and hire more teachers where necessary..

The statement reads in part, “Thorough investigations of native doctors in custody suspected of being quacks or criminals are ongoing, and those found guilty will be subject to the full force of the law.

“As mandated by the Anambra State Homeland Law 2025, the Council also instructed Anambra communities that might be documenting non-indigenes to do so without charging any fees and to view the process as entirely a social responsibility rather than a means of making money.

“The Council also approved requests from certain communities for the Anambra State Government to take over their community secondary schools, which they had built and maintained.

“The Government will upgrade the schools to the level of the state’s public secondary schools, integrate their teachers into the teaching workforce, and hire more teachers where necessary.

“The council has approved N801,534,464.00 for the construction of the Nzam headquarters road in Anambra West LGA. It was awarded to Kanubeen Construction Ltd. and will be completed in six weeks.

“N48,500,000 was also approved for Staff Offices/Examination Hall and Laboratory building project at Urban Boys Secondary School, Fegge, Onitsha South Local Government Area. The contract was awarded in favour of Harriets Millennium Estate Nigeria Ltd.”
