A female civil servant (name withheld) was on Tuesday arrested for h stealing a bar of soap and a packet of biscuit at the Amawbia bypass park, in Awka, Anambra state.
According to park attendants who witnessed the scene, the incident occurred around 10am when the suspect was seen concealing the items in her bag.
The park attendants promptly confronted the suspect, said to be wearing expensive dress, perfume and shouting makeup and recovered the stolen items in the process.
When questioned about her actions, the woman blamed the act on stress.
“Actually I was under a lot of stress and wasn’t thinking clearly when I carried out the action,” she confessed.
The incident has generated widespread outrage, with many calling for stricter punishment for her.
Our reporter gathered that senior officials in her office have promised to take appropriate disciplinary action against the suspect as the investigation continued.
