Native doctors and traditional religion practitioners from all 21 local government areas have formally endorsed Governor Prof. Chukwuma Soludo’s bid for re-election in the November 8, 2025 governorship race.

The endorsement took place at a gathering in Awka, where attendees also discussed the newly enacted Anambra State Homeland Security Law and dispelled misunderstandings about the government’s stance on traditional institutions. The January-passed law distinguishes legitimate native doctors from criminal elements who misuse traditional practices to commit atrocities.

In his welcome address, Daniel Ejie, state Coordinator of Native Doctors and Spiritual Material Sellers, praised Governor Soludo’s leadership and the Homeland Security Law’s role in granting native practitioners autonomy and legal recognition. “Before now, we were lumped together with criminals and our image was misunderstood. Soludo has restored our dignity by recognising us officially and granting us legal backing,” Ejie said.

Ejie added that Soludo understands the importance of traditional spirituality in Igbo culture and governance. He commended the state legislature for sponsoring and passing the bill and encouraged the governor to continue his infrastructural, digital governance, and youth empowerment initiatives.

Ikenna Ofodeme, Majority Leader of the Anambra State House of Assembly and Chairman of the House Committee on Homeland Security, reaffirmed the administration’s commitment to preserving Igbo customs while ensuring the safety of all lawful professions. He noted that the governor swiftly assented to the bill, a move seen as advancing cultural inclusion and security reform.
