The Young Progressive Party (YPP), deputy governorship candidate in the November 8, 2025 Anambra state governorship election, Chief Uzu Okagbue has said that the biggest threat to the hope of development in the state is under utilisation of working hours.

He said that the State cannot attain any meaningful development while running an 8-hour economy.

Okagbue stated that under the current the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA)’s-led government of Professor Chukwuma Soludo the state, the economy runs from 9 am to about 5 pm, arguing that an 8-hour work period economy cannot advance towards the expected dimension in any part of the world.

Reiterating his position, the YPP deputy governorship candidate said that the world has swiftly moved to a 24-hour economy which is why payment systems now run all day, non-stop, so that business operations are not interrupted by artificial roadblocks.

For Anambra state according to Okagbue, the road is still far because the state is trapped in all manner of insecurity which has not only completely deleted one full day from the original six active business days but has also reduced effective business hours to a paltry 8 hours.

Explaining further, Okagbue regretted that people can no longer start their days early enough and can also no longer retire late because of the fear of the unknown. “No country, and indeed, no society can develop by running an 8-hour economy in just five days. Anambra cannot be the exception,” Uzu Okagbue said.

Insecurity in Anambra State has since been an item of popular concern in Anambra state, as Governor Soludo’s administration struggles to respond with Udogachi security operatives, which so far, has not proved to be particularly effective.
