The Okafor family of Awa in Orumba has confirmed the release of their father Hon.Ernest Okafor after spending several days in captivity.

According to a source who preferred anonymity, the former House of Representatives aspirant was freed by kidnappers after paying a whopping sum of ₦16 million ransom.

Hon. Ernest Engr. Obinna Okafor, father of Engr. Obinna Okafor, was kidnapped on August 16, 2025, in front of his residence at Awa, Orumba Local Government Area of Anambra State on his return from a political event.

His abduction sparked widespread fear and heightened concerns over rising insecurity in the Anambra state.

While his release brought some relief to the family, the development was overshadowed by tragedy. His brother, Chief Okwuchukwu Okafor, popularly known as Ejiamatu, did not survive the ordeal.
