The Anambra State Special Anti-Touting Squad (SASA) has arrested four individuals in Achalla, Awka North Local Government Area, for allegedly impersonating SASA operatives and conducting unauthorized operations.

According to eyewitnesses, the suspects had been patrolling the streets of Achalla dressed in uniforms and brandishing counterfeit SASA (Ndi Akudo) identity cards. Their activities reportedly included harassment, intimidation, and extortion of residents, prompting multiple complaints to local authorities.

Reacting to the arrests, the Director-General of SASA, Hon. Monday Nwokoye Onwe, strongly condemned the impersonation, describing it as a criminal act that undermines the legitimacy and credibility of the state’s anti-touting efforts.

“We have no record of any authorized SASA (Ndi Akudo) operation in Achalla. The power to create or deploy any anti-touting formation lies solely with the Governor of Anambra State, His Excellency Prof. Charles Chukwuma Soludo,” Nwokoye stated.

He further revealed that the arrested individuals were reportedly using dangerous weapons during their illegal operations.

“Such conduct, intimidation, extortion, and impersonation,is not only criminal but also a direct attack on the integrity of the genuine SASA task force,” he added.

The Director-General assured the public that a full investigation is underway and that all those found guilty will be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.

He also warned against the fraudulent use of SASA’s name for personal or criminal gain.

“The government will not tolerate any attempt to exploit the public under the guise of SASA. We remain steadfast in our mission to rid Anambra State of touting and criminality in all forms,” Nwokoye added.

IMPORTANT NOTICE TO THE PUBLIC

The Anambra State Special Anti-Touting Squad (SASA) wishes to remind the public that joining the organization requires mandatory training and official clearance.

Key Requirements:

No individual is permitted to operate as a SASA official without completing the approved training program.

All members must meet the professional standards set by the state government.

This process ensures discipline, accountability, and efficiency in the discharge of duties.

Residents are encouraged to report any suspicious activity or individuals claiming affiliation with SASA without proper identification or authorization.
