The Anambra State Police Command has addressed a trending video on social media alleging that a police officer is involved in aiding kidnapping and violent crimes in the state. According to SP Tochukwu Ikenga, Force Public Relations Officer of the Anambra Police Command, the video is “false, mischievous, and malicious,” and a deliberate attempt to tarnish the image of the Nigeria Police Force.
In a statement Ikenga said:
“The Command categorically states that the video is not only false, mischievous, and malicious, but also a calculated attempt to tarnish the image of the Nigeria Police Force and demonize the said officer. For the avoidance of doubt, the officer featured in the video is an Assistant Commissioner of Police who is not serving in the Anambra State Police Command. The officer remains one of the pride of the Force in character and crime-fighting.”
The Anambra Police Command noted that Anambra State has seen significant progress in combating violent crimes like kidnapping, thanks to the collaboration between the”Ndi Anambra”and security agencies.
The command urges the public to disregard the misleading video and continue supporting lawful security efforts. They will invoke relevant Cybercrime Laws to ensure those behind the malicious content face consequences.
