The governorship candidate of the Young Progressives Party (YPP) in the upcoming November 8, 2025, Anambra State election, Sir Paul Chukwuma, has embarked on the rehabilitation of the long neglected Otuocha Anyamelum Road in Anambra East Local Government Area.
The once busy route, abandoned by motorists for years due to its deplorable condition, is now undergoing palliative repairs under Chukwuma’s initiative.
According to reports, the Otuocha Anyamelum Road serves as a vital link connecting Otuocha to Anyamelum and plays a crucial economic role in transporting agricultural produce from farmlands to major markets within Anambra and neighboring states.
The road also serves as a key business route connecting Anyamelum and its surrounding communities to Onitsha and even to northern parts of Enugu State.
Speaking during the flag off of the project, Chukwuma expressed deep concern over the road’s condition, noting that during his campaign visit to Anyamelum, he had promised residents prompt action.
He described the ongoing repairs as a palliative intervention a temporary measure to restore access while signaling his broader commitment to infrastructural development.
I was particularly disturbed by the state of this road, he said.
During our campaign in Anyamelum, I made a pledge to tackle it. What we are doing now is only the beginning a sign of what is to come.
Under my leadership, critical infrastructure will receive swift attention for the overall good of the public.
Chukwuma further emphasized the importance of the road, describing it as the major gateway to Anyamelum and a lifeline for the local economy.
He lamented that the road had deteriorated so badly that it became unusable, cutting off farmers and traders from markets and affecting livelihoods.
He assured the people that his administration, if elected, would focus on rebuilding strategic infrastructure across all local government areas to boost economic growth and improve living standards.
Our quick response to the plight of Anyamelum residents demonstrates our readiness to align our governance vision with the people’s most pressing needs, he added.
The ongoing rehabilitation has been warmly received by residents, who commended Chukwuma’s proactive approach and viewed the project as a glimpse of his development leadership style.
