The Anambra State Police Command has received an advance tactical team from the Inspector-General of Police (IGP) to bolster security ahead of the November 8, 2025, Governorship Election in the state.
According to the Command’s Public Relations Officer, SP Ikenga Tochukwu, who disclosed this on Sunday, the deployment is part of ongoing efforts to ensure public safety and guarantee a peaceful, hitch-free election across Anambra State.
Ikenga stated that the Force Headquarters’ Advance Tactical Teams, approved by the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, PhD, NPM, are being deployed to reinforce local police formations with additional manpower and cutting-edge technical assets.
These include aerial surveillance units, helicopters, and unmanned aerial vehicles (drones) for enhanced real-time monitoring of the state.
Receiving the tactical teams at the Command Headquarters in Awka, the Commissioner of Police, CP Ikioye Orutugu, expressed gratitude to the Inspector-General for his continuous support and commitment to safeguarding lives and property in Anambra.
CP Orutugu noted that the aerial surveillance operations will complement the ongoing ground patrols by tactical units, intelligence operatives, and special squads strategically positioned across all 21 Local Government Areas of the state.
“The combined operations of the existing formations and the newly deployed tactical operatives will significantly improve visibility policing, intelligence-driven operations, and rapid response to any emerging security threats,” the CP stated.
He added that the deployment of helicopters and surveillance drones would enable real-time tracking of key locations, border communities, and identified flashpoints, while ground teams maintain robust patrols, checkpoints, and area dominance operations throughout the state.
The Commissioner reaffirmed the Command’s readiness to collaborate with sister security agencies, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), traditional institutions, and community stakeholders to sustain peace, law, and order as the Governorship Election approaches.
He also urged residents to remain law-abiding, vigilant, and cooperative, and to promptly report suspicious movements or persons to the nearest police station or via the Command’s emergency hotlines:
📞 07039194332 or 08039334002.
The Anambra State Police Command reiterated its unwavering commitment to ensuring a safe and secure environment where citizens can exercise their franchise and go about their lawful duties without fear, intimidation, or disruption.
