United Nigeria Airlines Gets New Board Member

United Nigeria Airlines (UNA) has announced the appointment of Mrs Chiaka Ben-Obi as a Director on its United Nigeria Board, effective November 1, 2025. The appointment reinforces the airline’s commitment to strong corporate governance, strategic leadership, and sustainable expansion across Nigeria’s aviation sector.

 

According to the airline, the addition of Mrs Ben-Obi to the United Nigeria Board reflects its focus on building a diverse leadership team capable of driving innovation and operational excellence. Her wealth of experience is expected to strengthen the airline’s strategic oversight and governance structure as it continues to expand its route network and improve customer service delivery.

 

Mrs Ben-Obi is an accomplished corporate executive with more than 30 years of cross-sector professional experience, including over 20 years in senior and executive leadership roles. She currently serves as Managing Partner and CEO of Proven Performance Limited and previously worked as the Coordinating Director, Digital and Innovation Support Group at the Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS), where she successfully led the agency’s digital transformation programme.

Her appointment to the United Nigeria Board is also seen as recognition of her contributions to women’s leadership and technology advancement. Over the years, she has received several awards, including “Corporate Woman of Excellence,” “SheLeadsTech,” and “Technology and Innovation Personality of the Year in Public Service.”

 

Mrs Ben-Obi holds a B.Sc. in Political Science and Public Administration from the University of Maiduguri, an MBA from the University of Hull (UK), and a Postgraduate Diploma in Information Systems Development from London Guildhall University. She is also an alumna of Lagos Business School, the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), and Harvard Kennedy School (HKS).

 

Speaking on the appointment, the management of United Nigeria Airlines said: “In our continued effort to strengthen our corporate governance structure and broaden the membership of the United Nigeria Board, we are delighted to welcome Mrs Chiaka Ben-Obi. Her leadership depth and proven record in transformation make her a valuable addition to the airline’s leadership. We look forward to the strategic insight she will bring as United Nigeria Airlines continues to expand and evolve.”

 

Accepting the appointment, Mrs Chiaka Ben-Obi expressed appreciation to the airline’s management and the United Nigeria Board for the confidence reposed in her. She said: “I am deeply honoured to join the Board of United Nigeria Airlines. I look forward to working with the Board and Management to support the airline’s growth, operational excellence, and strategic vision. United Nigeria Airlines has a clear mission of ‘Flying to Unite,’ and I am committed to contributing meaningfully to the achievement of its goals and delivering lasting value to stakeholders.”

 

Her inclusion on the United Nigeria Board is viewed by industry observers as a strategic step toward reinforcing governance standards within the airline while advancing its long-term ambition to become one of Nigeria’s most reliable carriers.
