DIG Okolo Assumes Command of Police Operations for Anambra Governorship Poll

The Deputy Inspector-General of Police, DIG Benjamin Okolo, on Thursday officially assumed duty as the Supervisory Officer for all police personnel deployed for the Anambra State Governorship Election scheduled for November 8, 2025.

 

Earlier, DIG Okolo represented the Inspector-General of Police (IGP) on Monday during the signing of the Peace Accord ahead of the election.

 

DIG Okolo, together with the Deputy Inspector-General of Police in charge of Operations, DIG Yakubu Kwazhi, mni, stood in for the Inspector-General during the signing of the Peace Accord among political flag bearers and at other stakeholders’ engagements.

According to a statement issued by the Anambra State Police Command Spokesperson, SP Ikenga Tochukwu, on Thursday, DIG Okolo will oversee the operational framework, coordinate field deployments, and ensure strict adherence to the Force’s Rules of Engagement throughout the election security operations.

 

Ikenga explained that the deployment is part of the strategic security measures approved by the Inspector-General of Police to ensure a peaceful, credible, and professionally managed electoral environment across Anambra State.

 

He reaffirmed that the Nigeria Police Force remains committed to safeguarding the electoral process, protecting the rights of citizens, and ensuring that all individuals and political actors conduct themselves in accordance with the law.

 

The public was urged to remain law-abiding and cooperate fully with police officers and other security personnel detailed for election duties.

 

To assist DIG Benjamin Okolo in coordinating election security operations are,AIG Akoh Benedict Gabriel,Commissioner of Police for the Anambra Governorship Election, CP Abayomi Shogunle,Other Commissioners of Police deployed to the 21 Local Government Areas of the State and as well as other strategic senior officers.
