Indigenous residents of Odumodu village in Umunya, Oyi Local Government Area of Anambra State, have raised an outcry following the demolition of three buildings allegedly carried out by a known land grabber, Mr. Chinedu Eze, popularly known as ‘Edu Baron.

The incident reportedly occurred on Monday, November 24, 2025, sparking anger and renewed concerns over rising cases of land encroachment in the community.

According to witnesses, Mr. Eze allegedly stormed the area with hired hands and pulled down the structures, boasting openly that no law-enforcement agency could arrest or prosecute him.

The demolished buildings belonged to three indigenes—Mr. Obinna Osegbo, Mr. Nonso Ebeatu, and Mr. Sunday Obinze—who now count their losses amid calls for justice.

Following the incident, the victims reported the matter to the Nteje Divisional Police Headquarters. Community members expressed shock that although the suspect was invited for questioning, he was immediately released, a development they say aligns with his earlier claims of immunity from arrest.

Residents fear that the police response may embolden further acts of lawlessness and undermine public confidence in the justice system. They insist that allowing such actions to go unchallenged threatens the peace and security of the entire community.

The affected indigenes are now appealing directly to the Commissioner of Police, Anambra State Command, to intervene urgently. They want the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of Nteje Division directed to ensure a thorough investigation and to bring the suspect to justice so that due process can prevail.
