Empower Our Youths To Stop Begging, Ebonyi Youth Leader Begs Anambra Billionaires

Prominent public commentator and political activist, Nwoba Chika Nwoba, has called on the Ebonyi State Government to adopt a more strategic and sustainable approach to youth and citizens’ empowerment rather than prioritizing what he described as “frivolous expenditures.”

According to Nwoba, many Ebonyi people genuinely need empowerment opportunities, but any such initiative must begin with proper orientation and sensitisation. He emphasized that meaningful empowerment cannot succeed without first preparing beneficiaries through structured guidance and mindset reorientation.

He further proposed that the government establish a well-equipped skill acquisition centre in the state—an institution that could serve as a long-term hub for training in various trades, entrepreneurship, and vocational skills. Nwoba added that wealthy individuals, including billionaires from neighbouring Anambra State, could serve as sponsors or partners in developing such a centre.

He noted that such initiatives would significantly reduce the number of Ebonyi indigenes resorting to street hawking in major cities in Anambra state and across Nigeria, in search of survival.

However, Nwoba criticised the current spending priorities of the state government, accusing it of channelling resources into less impactful ventures such as purchasing expensive cars for priests and political stakeholders. He argued that these beneficiaries “do not need them,” but the government continues the practice in a bid to gain praise from elite circles.

Nwoba insisted that genuine empowerment, skill development, and investment in human capital should come first if the state hopes to uplift its citizens and reduce poverty-driven migration and street trading.
