The Anambra State Police Command has highlighted a series of security interventions and operational successes recorded across the state during the 2025 Ember Season, following coordinated efforts by the Police and other sister security agencies.

The highlights were contained in a press statement issued to newsmen on Monday, January 5, by the Police Public Relations Officer of the Command, SP Tochukwu Ikenga.

According to him, the Command, working in synergy with other security agencies, successfully maintained public safety, protected lives and property, and responded promptly to reported incidents throughout the December festive period and the new year.

Among the notable interventions was the arrest of a 42-year-old female suspect, Eucharia Ogochukwu, by operatives of the Rapid Response Squad (RRS) on December 31, 2025, at about 3:20pm in Awka. The suspect, the PPRO said, was arrested in connection with an alleged case of criminal conspiracy, cyber bullying and defamation of character involving a very senior police officer who previously served in the Anambra State Command.

Preliminary investigations, as disclosed in the statement, revealed that the suspect allegedly engaged in coordinated online activities aimed at damaging the reputation of the Assistant Commissioner of Police. It was gathered that the suspect reportedly made useful statements during interrogation, while investigations are ongoing to identify and apprehend other individuals who may be connected to the incident.

The Police Spokesman also confirmed that it successfully contained security-related issues that arose during town union elections conducted in some communities across the state within the festive period.

According to SP Ikenga, the police operatives, in collaboration with other security agencies and community stakeholders, were swiftly deployed to affected areas upon receiving reports of tension and disagreements linked to the electoral processes. The timely intervention, he said, prevented a breakdown of law and order, ensured the safety of residents and restored calm in the affected communities.

The Command also commended community leaders, town union officials and residents for their cooperation and restraint, noting that their collective maturity greatly contributed to the peaceful resolution of the issues.

The Police further advised community members, candidates, supporters and other stakeholders who may be dissatisfied with the outcome of the elections to channel their grievances through lawful and established mechanisms, rather than resorting to actions capable of disrupting public peace.

To consolidate the gains recorded during the Ember Season, the statement revealed that joint security patrols were intensified across major highways, commercial centres, places of worship and recreational areas throughout the festive period, resulting in a largely calm and hitch-free celebration in most parts of Anambra State.

The State Police Command reaffirmed its commitment to sustaining proactive policing strategies and collaborative security efforts aimed at enhancing public safety and security across the state.
