The Amaechi-Uwani community in Enugu State has honored Chief Ugochukwu Okeke, a prominent businessman and politician, and his wife, Lolo Oma Okeke, with prestigious chieftaincy titles during the traditional ruler’s Ofala festival held at Unity Field, Amaechi-Uwani on the 27th December, 2025.

Chief Okeke was conferred with the title Enyioha, meaning “Friend of the People,” while his wife received the title Akwa Ugo, symbolizing “Precious Eagle.” The ceremony was presided over by HRH Igwe Joseph A.E. Ogbodo (Ohachirieze II), who led the royal cabinet in recognizing the couple’s contributions to community development and cultural heritage.

This marks the third time Chief Okeke has been honored with the Enyioha title, having previously received similar recognition in Imo and Abia States.

The title reflects his reputation for fostering friendship and unity across Igboland and beyond.

In his remarks, Chief Okeke expressed gratitude to the Amaechi-Uwani community and pledged continued service.

He was accompanied to the event by family, friends, and well-wishers, underscoring his wide network of support.

Chief Okeke, originally from Ihiala in Anambra State, is a member of the Board of Trustees of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP).

He is also the founder of the Ugochukwu Okeke Foundation, which has empowered more than 10,000 Nigerian youths through vocational training and scholarships. His business interests span telecommunications, agro-allied ventures, hospitality, engineering, and oil and gas.

Lolo Oma Okeke, a seasoned financial expert, has distinguished herself in Nigeria’s banking sector for over two decades. With a background in Industrial Chemistry and an MBA in Business Administration, she rose through the ranks at Zenith Bank Plc and UBA before assuming her current role as Regional Manager at United Bank for Africa Plc, Abuja.

She is widely recognized for mentoring young professionals and driving innovation in financial services.

The royal citation described the couple as “distinguished icons whose lives embody impact, service, and cultural heritage,” noting their role in advancing education, sports, cultural diplomacy, and communal development.
