Nigerian crypto entrepreneur Linus Williams Ifejika, popularly known as Blord, has unveiled a new digital platform called RATEL, further intensifying his long-running rivalry with social media activist VeryDarkMan (VDM), real name Martins Vincent Otse.
The RATEL app, launched on Sunday, is a fintech and utility platform that allows users to purchase airtime and mobile data, pay electricity bills, and manage other utility services across several African countries.
Blord revealed that the app’s name was inspired by “Ratels,” the nickname used to describe VeryDarkMan’s loyal fanbase. The move has sparked widespread reactions online, with many Nigerians describing it as a bold attempt to turn controversy into commercial success.
In a promotional video shared on social media, Blord projected that the app could generate ₦500 million in revenue by mid-2026. He also pledged to donate 50 per cent of the app’s earnings to charity, a promise that has further fueled public interest.
The launch comes against the backdrop of a year-long feud between Blord and VeryDarkMan, which began over allegations involving fake iPhones. What started as online accusations has since evolved into one of Nigeria’s most talked-about social media rivalries.
Following the announcement, social media platforms were flooded with memes and commentary, with many users applauding Blord’s ability to convert online drama into business momentum, while others questioned the motivations behind the branding.
As the buzz around RATEL continues to grow, the app’s real test may lie in user adoption and service delivery beyond the controversy that birthed it.
