A community leader, Prince Dr. Chinedu Ikeanyi of Enugwu-Agidi in Njikoka Local Government Area (LGA) of Anambra State, has appealed to Governor Chukwuma Soludo to intervene in uncovering and prosecuting those allegedly responsible for the killing of a construction worker and local flutist, Mr. Anayo Nworah.

Nworah, a 28-year-old father of five from Irunnebo Village, Enugwu-Agidi, was allegedly beaten to death by some youths of the community on November 11, 2021, during the tenure of Mr. Chukwuebuka Onuorah as President-General of the Enugwu-Agidi Brotherly Union (EBU-Nigeria).

In an open letter to the governor, Ikeanyi, who is a titled chief and son of the late traditional ruler of Enugwu-Agidi—lamented that several investigations into the incident have allegedly remained inconclusive, while those responsible have neither been identified nor prosecuted, thereby denying justice to the deceased and his family.

According to Ikeanyi, Nworah was widely known in Enugwu-Agidi as a peaceful, hardworking, and law-abiding citizen who served as the sole breadwinner of his household.

He left behind five children, aged between 12 and 3 years.

Ikeanyi noted that Nworah’s youngest child, Abuchi, was born after his father’s death and has therefore been denied the opportunity of ever knowing him.

He further alleged that, as of January 2026, no individual has been held accountable for the killing.

Ikeanyi claimed there are widespread allegations that intimidation, abuse of influence, and the use of armed thugs have deliberately obstructed justice in the case.

Detailing the events leading to Nworah’s death, Ikeanyi alleged that the deceased was mobbed, chased through several public locations, and beaten continuously over several hours.

The assault reportedly began at the Ugwu Ogu area of Achalla Village while Nworah was transporting bags of cement to a construction site on his motorcycle.

He was allegedly pulled down forcibly and attacked.

“At some point during the assault, he fled to St. John’s Catholic Church, later to Eke Market, and subsequently toward his family home,” “He was eventually overpowered, rendered unconscious, and later died after sustaining a fatal blow to the groin.”Ikeanyi stated.

Ikeanyi further alleged that eyewitnesses and community members identified the following individuals as participants in the assault: Chukwuebuka Anuta, Chibuzo Okoye, Agafena Ndupuechi, Emeka Ojukwu, Nnamdi Anameze, Obi Akusuo, and Chibuogwu Ogu.

In his appeal to the governor, Ikeanyi called for an independent and comprehensive investigation into the killing; the arrest, interrogation, and prosecution of all persons found culpable; and adequate protection for witnesses willing to testify.

He also urged the state government to provide humanitarian assistance to the widow and five children of the deceased and to facilitate the completion of Nworah’s traditional burial rites in accordance with Enugwu-Agidi customs, which he alleged remain incomplete due to fear and intimidation.
