The Diocese of Nnewi Anglican Communion has appealed to Chief Sir James Okoye, an aggrieved Catholic Church knight who recently openly denounced Christianity, to return to the Christian fold.

The appeal was contained in a letter signed by the Administrative Secretary of the diocese, Rev Canon Daniel Ikechukwu (PhD)

The letter revealed that the diocese under the episcopacy of the Rt Rev Ndubuisi Chukwuka Obi was shocked and saddened by Chief Okoye’s viral video clip denouncing Christianity.

Recall that Sir James Okoye has immediately after the dedication of the Our Lady of Assumption cathedral in Nnewi denounced Christianity in a video clip, for failure of the church to properly recognize the immense contributions of Sen Dr Ifeanyi Ubah.

The letter reads, “We watched with dismay as you cited the lack of acknowledgement of a major contributor to the cathedral’s construction, Sen Dr Ifeanyi Ubah (Ebubechukwuzo Nnewi) as the reason for your decision.

“We understand and sympertize with your hurt, but we strongly believe that renouncing Christianity is not the solution.

“As a respected Knight and a Christian brother, we urge you to renounce your decision. Your actions have caused ripples in the Christian community and we have concern for your spiritual wellbeing.

“We warmly reach out to you and earnestly urge you to please return to the Christian fold, please be assured that you are deeply loved, highly valued and greatly cherished and your place in the Christian faith is of great importance to us

“Remember, Christ’s love is not conditional and His arms are always open to those who seek him. We pray that you will rediscover the joy of your faith and love of the Lord.”

The Nnewi Anglican Communion earnestly prayed that God will guide Chief Okoye back to His loving arms and grant him peace in his journey.

Meanwhile, the knighthood of Nnewi Catholic Diocese has officially sent James Louis Okoye, a letter of expulsion from the knighthood, following his protest against the church during Nnewi catholic cathedral church dedication on the 14th of January 2026.

The letter of expulsion dated 21st January , 2026 was signed by Noble Cyprian Egbosi, Worthy President, Commandery 511 Nnewi
