Preliminary investigations reveal that the abuse came to light during a school session when teachers noticed severe injuries on the victim’s body. Alarmed by the sight, school officials immediately made inquiries. The girl reportedly disclosed that the injuries were inflicted by her guardian after she used her guardian’s mobile phone to make calls without permission.

According to the victim’s account, Mrs. Osinachi, angered by the act, allegedly used a hot pressing iron on her as punishment. During police interrogation, the suspect reportedly confessed to the act. The Anambra State Police Command has since commenced a thorough investigation to ensure that justice is served in accordance with the law.

Commending the vigilance and timely intervention of the school authorities, the Command reassured the public of its commitment to protecting children and vulnerable persons. In a statement signed by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, the Command also urged parents and guardians to give birth to and take responsibility for only the number of children they can properly care for, to prevent exposing them to abuse while in the hands of others.
