Transport operators in Anambra State have resolved to resume full operations on Mondays, assuring the state government of their readiness to convey passengers across the state.

The resolution was reached during a meeting between transport union leaders and officials of the Ministry of Transport in Awka. Leaders of the transporters, Chief Anthony Okwugo and Mr. Vincent Ukwuoma, said the prolonged Monday sit-at-home had caused significant revenue losses to the state, funds they noted could have supported road construction under Governor Chukwuma Soludo’s administration.

They affirmed that all transport departments would be open and functional on Mondays, praising the governor for bringing an end to the sit-at-home that had persisted for years. The transporters also called on the government to strengthen security across the state on Mondays to encourage residents to move freely and conduct their businesses without fear.

In addition, they appealed to the state government to ensure that independent petroleum marketers operate on Mondays, stressing that fuel availability is critical to smooth transport operations.

Speaking at the meeting, the Commissioner for Transport, Mrs. Patricia Igwebuike, said the engagement was aimed at sensitizing transporters on the importance of providing services on Mondays. She noted that with markets, schools, and banks now operating fully on Mondays, there is an increased demand for transportation services across the state.
