Accident Victims Rescued in Anambra

No fewer than ten accident victims have been rescued from a fatal accident scene late Friday evening in Awka, the capital of Anambra State. The victims were rescued through the timely intervention of Anambra State Commissioner for Health, Dr. Afam Obidike, who not only deployed ambulances but also visited the scene. He was later joined by the Anambra State Federal Road Safety Commission’s Sector Commander, Bridget Asekhauno. The accident, which occurred around the popular Woman Lecturer in the Okpuno area of the State capital at about 11 pm, involved a trailer and an inter-state public transportation bus. According to an eyewitness, the trailer lost control and rammed into the moving vehicle, injuring ten passengers, while two others died instantly.

 

Upon receiving the information, the Commissioner for Health, Dr. Obidike, immediately dispatched ambulances to the scene to evacuate victims to the hospital. At the time this reporter reached the Commissioner late last night, the Commissioner stated that he had just been informed and had dispatched ambulances to the scene to transport the injured passengers to the hospital for treatment.

However, moments later, Dr. Afam Obidike visited the scene of the accident to ensure that the victims were expeditiously evacuated for treatment at the hospital. While at the scene late last night, the Commissioner reached out to the FRSC State Commander, who also arrived the accident scene and ensured that the road was cleared promptly for the easy evacuation of victims. Out of the ten victims who sustained various degrees of injury, five victims were taken to a private clinic in Awka, and five others were taken to the State Teaching Hospital in Awka.

 

As of this morning, the Anambra State Commissioner for Health has confirmed that many of the accident victims are already recovering.
