There was widespread jubilation in Agulu, Anaocha Local Government Area of Anambra State, following the completion of the long-awaited Nneoha–Nwanchi Village Road, a key infrastructure project facilitated by Senator Victor Umeh, who represents Anambra Central Senatorial District.

The 1.2-kilometre road, constructed to modern engineering standards, has an 18-foot width and reinforced concrete drainage on both sides.

It provides a smooth and reliable access route linking Nwanchi through Nneoha to Amaezike Village, thereby opening up the area and easing movement within the community.

Residents described the project as a major breakthrough, noting that the new road now serves as an alternative to the heavily congested Afor-Agulu Market Road. It also improves connectivity to neighbouring communities such as Nanka, Ekwulobia, Adazi and Awka.

Community leaders and residents who spoke to our correspondent said the development had brought relief after years of hardship caused by poor access roads.

“This road is life-changing. It will reduce traffic, improve business activities and make life easier for residents,” a community stakeholder, Silas Ike said.

The completion of the project is seen as part of ongoing efforts by the senator to expand infrastructure and stimulate economic growth across communities in the district.

Beyond road construction, Senator Umeh has undertaken several development initiatives in Agulu, including the full completion of classroom blocks at St. Albert the Great School and the fencing of Union Secondary School, Umunnowu, to enhance security for students and staff.

In the area of power and infrastructure, a 300kVA transformer was installed in Obeagu Village, while the Igwe Agulu Central Palace benefitted from solar-powered electrification.

The senator has also implemented empowerment programmes, including agricultural training for about 500 residents, distribution of fertilisers to farmers and provision of over 129,000 kilogrammes of rice as food palliatives.

Youth development has equally featured in the interventions, with employment opportunities created for 35 persons in the district and scholarships awarded to 327 students, including beneficiaries from Agulu.

Observers say the completion of the Nneoha–Nwanchi Road underscores the growing focus on grassroots development and infrastructure delivery within Anambra Central.

Residents expressed optimism that the new road would enhance mobility, stimulate commerce and support long-term growth in the community.

For many in Agulu, the project is not just a road, but a symbol of progress and a renewed hope for sustainable development.
