Anambra State Government Flags-off Distribution of Teaching-Learning Materials To Public Primary and Secondary Schools

The Anambra State Universal Basic Education Board, ASUBEB, Awka has flagged-off the distribution of ASUBEB/UBEC Teaching-Learning materials to Public Primary and Junior Secondary Schools in the State.

 

The State Governor, Prof. Charles Chukwuma Soludo, CFR who performed the exercise at the ASUBEB Headquarters, Awka charged Headteachers to ensure that the materials get to the targeted learners for maximum benefit.

 

The Governor, represented by the Chairman, House Committee on Education in the Anambra State House of Assembly, Hon. Anayo Okpaleke extolled the Teachers, Headteachers, Officers-in- charge, and ASUBEB officials for their good works in driving his education agenda in the State, adding that his promise to strengthen the weakest link in education at the public-public schools is being actualised by the teachers.

Earlier, in an opening remark, the Director of Administration, ASUBEB, Mrs Florence Chinweze described the exercise as a practical demonstration of a shared commitment to supporting effective teaching and learning, pointing out that the availability of relevant instructional materials are vital components in achieving improved learning outcomes and ensuring that learners are adequately guided in the teaching-learning process.

 

The Executive Chairman, ASUBEB, Awka, Dr. Vera Nkiru Nwadinobi in her address of welcome noted that the distribution of books and other instructional materials would not only enhance teaching and learning but would ensure that every Anambra child has access to the essential tools for academic excellence and lifelong success.

 

While appreciating the State Governor, Prof. Charles Chukwuma Soludo, CFR for his commitment to ensuring that every child in Anambra has access to basic education by declaring complete free education with zero levies and employed 8,115 qualified teachers in the State, she stressed that the State basic schools have been repositioned for global competitiveness.

 

Dr. Nwadinobi also commended the Executive Secretary of the Universal Basic Education Commission, UBEC, Aisha Garba, ably represented by the UBEC South East Zonal Director, Mr. Isaac Ichenwo for their steadfastness in advancing basic education across Nigeria through increased access, improved quality, provision of safe and conducive learning environment which she said aligns with Governor Soludo’s vision for basic education in Anambra as manifested in the current distribution of learning materials in the State.

 

“These materials are not merely supplies; they are instruments of opportunity, equity, innovation, and future prosperity. The distribution includes: 127,776 English and Mathematics textbooks; 44,100 exercise books, and writing materials; 3,675 pairs of sandals and 3,675 school bags for learners across the State”, she said.

 

In a goodwill messages, the Director UBEC, South East, Mr. Isaac Ichenwo extolled the State Governor, Prof. Soludo for his interest in the basic education sector and observed that the learning materials were provided by UBEC for the learners to use, warning that the books should not be stored in the libraries but should be equitably distributed to the individual learners for their maximum benefit.

 

Also speaking, the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Education, Dr. Ifeoma Agbaizu; the Chairman, Post Primary Schools Service Commission, PPSSC, Prof. Nkechi Ikediugwu, represented by Amb. Anulika Adibe thanked UBEC for founding Anambra State worthy to receive the learning materials, calling on Teachers and Headteachers to make effective use of the materials by ensuring that learners access them in the school libraries.

 

Delivering the vote of thanks, the Chairman, Association of Primary School Headteachers of Nigeria, AOPSHON, Comrade Josephine Chikwendu appreciated all the stakeholders in the basic education sector, while paying tribute to Governor Soludo for making Monday schooling a reality in Anambra State.

 

Highlights were the official Flag-off of distribution of learning materials, symbolic presentation of materials to learners, pantomime and cultural dance by the pupils of Udeozo Memorial Basic School, Awka.
