Dr. Ernest Azudialu Obiejesi, a prominent oil and gas magnate as well as a renowned philanthropist, stands as a significant figure in Nigeria’s oil and gas industry, particularly in the upstream sector, where he specializes in the exploration of oil and gas assets. As the driving force behind Nestoil, he leads Nigeria’s largest indigenous Engineering, Procurement, Construction, and Commissioning (EPCC) company in the oil and gas sector, playing a pivotal role in the nation’s energy landscape.

However, the billionaire entrepreneur recently found himself in a challenging predicament when FirstHolding Company, along with its appointed receiver-manager, tasked by FBN Quest Merchant Bank Limited and First Trustees Limited, took drastic actions to seize Neconde Energy Limited’s assets. This move was part of an aggressive strategy to recover a staggering multi-billion-dollar debt, culminating in a court of appeals judgment that favored the creditors. The situation escalated to the point where his company’s head office was shut down, with police and armed personnel being deployed to the premises.

Since the closure of the head office last year, operations at Nestoil have been severely hampered, with significant repercussions for daily oil production from their deep-water assets. Recognizing the urgency of the situation, not only did the Federal Government step in, but also various stakeholders within Nigeria, including friends, family, and influential colleagues, sought to mediate the dispute.

Notably, Femi Otedola, the Chairman of First Holding Co., was approached to reconsider the stringent measures imposed and to explore possibilities for an amicable settlement outside of the courtroom.

After months of negotiations and efforts to broker peace, a potential resolution is finally on the horizon.

Reports indicate that Aliko Dangote, another titan of the Nigerian business landscape, is actively facilitating discussions between the parties involved. This collaborative effort aims to ensure that Obijackson obtains crucial access to his seized and locked properties at Nestoil.

As the situation progresses, sources have disclosed that the negotiations are in the final stages of actualization. It is anticipated that all pending legal cases will be withdrawn, leading to a resolution that is expected to materialize shortly after the Ramadan fasting period. This development not only offers a glimmer of hope for Dr. Obiejesi but also signals a positive turn for the stability of operations within the oil and gas sector in Nigeria.
