2027: Anambra National Assembly Members To Join Obi in NDC

Strong indications have emerged that National Assembly members from Anambra State are set to pitch tent with Peter Obi in Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), as fresh political realignments gather momentum ahead of 2027.

The lawmakers include Senator Victor Umeh (Anambra Central), Senator Tony Nwoye (Anambra North), and members of the House of Representatives, Victor Ogene and Lilian Orogbu.

Member representing Idemili North and South In the House of Reps has already resigned his membership of the ADC.

The legislators, all elected on the Labour Party (LP) platform in 2023, are widely regarded as loyalists of Obi. They had earlier followed him to the African Democratic Congress (ADC) after his exit from the LP.

With Obi now in the NDC after describing the ADC as “toxic,” sources suggest his political allies in Anambra are unlikely to part ways with him.

“There is no way Umeh and Nwoye will abandon Obi at this stage. This is politics,” a source close to the senator said on condition of anonymity.

“Obi provided the platform that brought them into office, so they are expected to align with him. Consultations are ongoing across their wards. It has been a busy weekend,” the source added.

The anticipated move, if confirmed, could signal a broader realignment within opposition ranks as political actors reposition ahead of the next general elections.
