Anambra Police to Arraign Man Who Infected Daughter With HIV, Others

The Anambra State Police Command has concluded investigations into multiple sexual and child abuse cases and will arraign five suspects before the Special Court in Awka today, 6th May 2026.

 

The State Criminal Investigation Department’s Gender Unit handled the cases, which include defilement, incest, and severe physical abuse of minors across Ogbunike, Neni, Awka, Oko, and Onitsha.

 

Among the suspects is 46-year-old Rapuruchukwu Ezenandu, who allegedly had sexual relations with his 20-year-old daughter since she was 17. The matter came to light after the victim tested HIV positive during a hospital visit. Police said the suspect made a confessional statement.

In a separate case, 26-year-old security personnel Chukwuemeka Chidiebere is accused of dragging a 16-year-old girl into an uncompleted building in an Ogbunike estate and forcefully assaulting her. He has also confessed, according to investigators.

 

Other cases include 36-year-old Uchenna Muojama, who allegedly lured an 11-year-old girl into his barbing saloon in Neni and assaulted her, and 52-year-old Chukwudi Nwayata, who is accused of taking advantage of an 11-year-old girl with a mental condition in Awka on 21st April 2025. Medical reports have been obtained for the court proceedings in the Neni case.

 

In the fifth case, female suspect Eucharia Ezenwanne allegedly used a wire to inflict injuries on two adopted children, aged 4 and 6, in Onitsha on 28th April 2026. She claimed to have adopted them from a motherless babies’ home.

 

“The cases are heinous and unacceptable,” said Commissioner of Police CP Ikioye Orutugu fwc mnips PhD. “The Command remains committed to protecting vulnerable persons, especially children, and ensuring that offenders are brought to justice.”

The suspects will face charges related to defilement, incest, and child abuse under applicable laws.
