The Anambra State Commissioner for Transport-designate, Mr. Edward Ibuzo, has expressed concern over the high number of security checkpoints along the Enugu-Onitsha Expressway.
Speaking to journalists after appearing before the screening committee for Commissioner nominees at the Anambra State House of Assembly Complex in Awka, Ibuzo described the numerous checkpoints mounted by police and other security agencies as a major issue that requires urgent attention.
He revealed that there are over 15 checkpoints between Onitsha and Awka, noting that such a situation causes inconvenience for motorists and commuters using the route.
According to him, security agencies are expected to protect road users while maintaining a friendly relationship with the public.
Ibuzo stated that addressing the checkpoint issue would be one of his priorities if confirmed as commissioner. He also emphasized the need for reforms in the transport sector, especially in the management of motor parks and public transportation operations across the state.
He added that efforts would be made to create a more organized and people-friendly transport system, while ensuring parks are properly managed for the benefit of residents.
The commissioner-designate further assured Ndi Anambra that the transport sector would soon experience improvements through collaboration with relevant ministries to make roads across the state safer and more motorable.
