The Anambra State High Court in Awka has ordered that popular native doctor,Ikechukwu Ezenagu, known as Muomiri Afuluanya, be remanded at the Amawbia Correctional Centre after rejecting an application by his counsel to allow him remain in hospital pending the next court date.

Justice Jude Obiora, who presided over the matter, ruled that a hospital is not a constitutional facility for the detention of a defendant and consequently ordered his transfer to the correctional centre. Ezenagu had been brought to court from hospital, and his counsel Barrister Kingsley Awuka applied for bail on health grounds, urging the court to permit him to remain receiving medical care until the adjourned date.

The prosecuting counsel, Barrister Tobechukwu Nweke, opposed the bail application and asked the court to remand the defendant pending the determination of the bail motion. Justice Obiora upheld the prosecution’s position and adjourned the matter to June 19, 2026.
