The Anambra State House of Assembly has passed a motion calling on Governor Chukwuma Soludo to establish fire service stations and train personnel across all 21 local government areas of the state, citing recurring fire outbreaks that have destroyed markets, buildings, and properties worth millions of naira.

The motion was sponsored by the member representing Idemili South Constituency, Honourable Ebuka Igwe, and co-sponsored by other lawmakers during plenary. Igwe argued that the state’s existing firefighting capacity is inadequate to cover all parts of Anambra, particularly remote and densely populated communities where delayed response times have compounded losses during fire emergencies.

He said effective fire prevention and rapid emergency response require modern equipment, trained personnel, functional stations, and the strategic deployment of resources across both urban and rural areas, and that establishing response points in every local government area would significantly reduce the loss of lives and property.

The motion was seconded by the member representing Anambra West Constituency, Honourable Patrick Udoba, and supported by Honourable Nonso Atuchukwu of Nnewi South One Constituency and Honourable Golden Iloh of Ihiala Two Constituency, both of whom called for improved emergency preparedness across the state.

Speaker Somtochukwu Udeze commended Igwe for bringing the motion, describing it as beneficial to the people of Anambra State.
