The Senator representing Anambra Central Senatorial District, Victor Umeh, has unveiled a scorecard of his three years in the Senate, highlighting his legislative activities, constituency interventions, empowerment programmes and infrastructural projects across the district.

A report obtained by our correspondent on Wednesday indicated that the senator, who was elected on February 25, 2023, and sworn in on June 13, 2023, has remained focused on human capital development, poverty alleviation and legislative advocacy aimed at improving the welfare of his constituents.

According to the report, Umeh has played active roles in several Senate committees, serving as Chairman of the Senate Committee on National Population and Identity, while also holding membership in various standing and special committees.

The report stated that one of the senator’s earliest interventions was the distribution of over 12,000 bags of rice, weighing about 129,000 kilograms, to residents of the 109 political wards in Anambra Central in January 2024 as part of efforts to cushion the effects of economic hardship.

It further noted that Umeh facilitated the distribution of 1,200 bags of fertiliser and financial support to farmers and cooperatives drawn from the 58 communities in the senatorial district.

The lawmaker was also said to have sponsored agricultural training and empowerment programmes for more than 500 constituents, providing farming inputs, livestock support and financial assistance.

In the education sector, the report said the senator introduced the Anambra Central Scholarship Programme, through which 331 students from different communities in the district have benefitted.

It disclosed that N37 million was disbursed to beneficiaries for the 2024/2025 academic session, while N64 million was released in January 2026 for the payment of tuition fees for the second academic year of students enrolled in tertiary institutions across the country.

On legislative activities, the report credited Umeh with sponsoring several bills, including the proposed establishment of a Federal College of Skills Acquisition and Technology in Agulu, a Federal College of Agriculture in Ebenebe, constitutional amendment proposals, and a bill seeking to introduce an electronic civil registration system in Nigeria.

The senator was also said to have sponsored and co-sponsored motions on the welfare of Nigerians detained in Ethiopia, the modernisation of the Eastern Railway Corridor, erosion control along the Onitsha-Oba section of the Onitsha-Owerri Federal Highway, and the inclusion of Eastern rail lines in national railway development projects.

The report highlighted a number of interventions undertaken by the lawmaker, including advocacy against the demolition of houses in the Abule-Ado and Festac areas of Lagos State, engagements with Nigerian communities in South Africa on immigration and consular matters, and efforts that reportedly led to justice for victims of police misconduct.

It also cited his intervention in the case of a University of Abuja student leader whose rustication was later reversed, as well as his facilitation of employment opportunities for 27 constituents.

On infrastructure, the report revealed that Umeh had attracted more than 70 constituency projects to communities across Anambra Central. The projects include the construction of roads, classroom blocks, healthcare facilities, solar-powered boreholes, rural electrification schemes, market infrastructure, erosion control works and educational facilities.

Among the projects listed were the construction and rehabilitation of roads in Anaocha, Awka South and Idemili areas; the provision of solar-powered water schemes in several communities; the installation of transformers and solar street lights; the construction of health centres and hospitals; and the renovation of educational institutions, including schools and tertiary institutions.

The report also pointed to projects at Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka, Paul University, Awka, and various secondary and primary schools across the senatorial district.
