The Government of Anambra State has strengthened leadership across at least five communities in the state, resolving outstanding community disputes in at least four communities. These efforts, led by the Anambra State Commissioner for Local Government Affairs, Barrister Vin Ezeaka, are in line with the Governor Soludo administration’s focus on order as a crucial component of an organized society, as well as his commitment to the emergence of a new onye Anambra who is reformed and takes ownership of his environment.
Deploying an effective alternative dispute resolution mechanism, Barrister Ezeaka, has drawn a roadmap for the resolution of community disputes in Achalla, Awka North LGA. However, in Awgbu, Orumba North LGA, disputes involving the PG, Mr. Christian Okoyeudor, the Ozo Society, and community stakeholders have been resolved, and all parties have agreed to jointly move the community forward. Similarly, in Azia, Ihiala LGA, a dispute involving the PG, Mr. Ikenna Igboamaeze, members of his executive council, the Igwe, and some stakeholders has been resolved, leading to a renewed commitment to collective effort to move the community forward.
Also, the Government of Anambra State has resolved an intra-communal dispute between the town union leadership and Umueze village, of Uga, in Aguata LGA. Meanwhile, a dispute between the PG of Isiagu community and his executive council members has also been put to rest.
Both inter- and intra-community disputes in Anambra State are a major source of conflict and disorder, often leading to a breakdown of law and order and security.
With these accelerated peacebuilding efforts across communities, disputes in Anambra State communities are giving way to an expanded, meaningful community development anchored in Governor Soludo’s Public-Private Community Partnership (PPCP) development model.
