By Ndife David, Onitsha.

The Chairman of Landlords in Trans Nkisi G.R.A., Onitsha, Chief Onyebuchi Ndulue, has appealed to Anambra State Governor, Prof. Chukwuma Soludo, to expedite government intervention in addressing the severe gully erosion ravaging the community, warning that the environmental disaster now poses a grave threat to lives, property, and critical infrastructure.

Ndulue made the appeal following the recent joint inspection of flood- and erosion-prone communities in Onitsha by the Commissioners for Works and Infrastructure, Physical Planning and Urban Development, and Environment, who visited affected areas to assess the extent of the damage and chart immediate intervention measures.

Speaking at one of the erosion sites in Trans Nkisi Layout, the landlords’ chairman described the expanding gully as a major environmental challenge requiring urgent government attention to prevent further destruction within the residential estate.

He expressed appreciation to the Soludo administration for responding to the community’s concerns, saying the inspection had renewed residents’ confidence that lasting remedial measures would soon be deployed to arrest the erosion menace.

Chief Ndulue assured the governor that landlords and residents of the estate would continue to cooperate with relevant government agencies by protecting drainage channels, complying with approved physical planning regulations, and supporting every initiative aimed at restoring the environment.

He disclosed that the community has already established an organized waste management system, while residents are being encouraged to sustain proper sanitation, preserve vegetation, and embrace environmentally responsible practices capable of mitigating erosion and flooding.

The landlords’ chairman stressed that tackling the environmental challenge requires collective responsibility, noting that the community remains fully committed to partnering with the state government to safeguard the layout and promote sustainable environmental management.

He reaffirmed the unwavering support of Trans Nkisi Layout landlords for Governor Soludo’s environmental restoration agenda and appealed for the swift commencement of permanent erosion control works to protect the community from further devastation.
