Following multiple rounds of selection and evaluation by an expert panel, 63 outstanding young participants from around the world were awarded the title of 2026 Junior Cultural Ambassador.

Among the recipients was Miss Uchechi Justina Michael, a Nigerian teenager who had before now emerged as a national champion in previous Chinese Bridge competitions.

“I am pleased to inform you that Miss Michael Uchechi Justina, a 17-year-old student of the Confucius Institute at Nnamdi Azikiwe University, was among the recipients.

“Through her outstanding performance, she became the only Nigerian to receive this prestigious international honor.” the statement noted.

Notably, earlier this month, Michael also won First Prize in the Nigerian National Final of the 19th Chinese Bridge Chinese Proficiency Competition for Secondary School Students. She will travel to China this September to represent Nigeria in the global final.

Reacting on the positive development, the Chinese Director, Confucius Institute at Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Prof. Yu Zhangbao described it as a very remarkable achievement.

“This remarkable achievement once again reflects the growing excellence of our Confucius Institute and the University’s continuing contribution to China–Nigeria educational and cultural exchanges,” he added.
