Members of staff of Nnamdi Azikiwe University (UNIZIK), Awka, employed in 2019 and 2020, on Wednesday, July 8, 2026, paid an early morning appreciation visit to the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Ugochukwu Bond Stanley Anyaehie, in recognition of his impactful leadership and efforts that have led to the commencement of salary payments for some previously unpaid staff members.

Speaking on behalf of the delegation, Mrs. Kenechukwu Jane Ejim commended the Vice-Chancellor for his unwavering commitment and proactive interventions, which she said had restored hope and brought relief to many staff members after years of uncertainty.

She expressed gratitude for the progress already made and appealed to the Vice-Chancellor to sustain the momentum by ensuring that the remaining unpaid staff are equally captured on the University’s payroll, noting that their collective joy would only be complete when every affected employee begins to receive salaries.

Responding, the Vice-Chancellor thanked the delegation for the visit and acknowledged the patience, resilience, and understanding demonstrated by the affected staff over the years despite the challenges they had endured.

Professor Anyaehie assured them that the issue, which his administration inherited, remains a top priority and reiterated his commitment to resolving it completely. He disclosed that concerted efforts are already underway to facilitate the payroll placement of another batch of the affected staff, with the ultimate goal of ensuring that every eligible staff member is fully integrated into the University’s salary structure.

He further pledged that his administration would continue to work tirelessly until the lingering challenge is brought to a permanent end, emphasising that he remains committed to wiping away the tears of the remaining unpaid staff.

The high point of the visit was the presentation of an appreciation plaque to the Vice-Chancellor by the delegation, followed by a jubilant celebration in appreciation of the progress recorded so far.
