The award was announced during the Association’s maiden Award and Dinner Night, where students of the Faculty of Technology and Vocational Education voted to honour lecturers who have distinguished themselves in teaching, mentorship and service.

Alonta emerged as the award recipient after securing the highest number of votes cast by the students.

Speaking after receiving the award, the awardee said he was deeply honoured by the recognition, saying there were few honours more meaningful to a teacher than one bestowed by the very students he was privileged to teach.

He said, “Today, I write with a heart full of gratitude after being recognised as the Best Male Lecturer of the Year by the Association of Technology and Vocational Education Students (AVOCEDS), Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka.

“I’m humbled to learn that I emerged as the recipient of the award after securing the highest number of votes cast by the students. Due to an unavoidable engagement, I was unable to attend the ceremony.

“However, on Wednesday, July 8, 2026, I was delighted to receive the award in my office from the President of AVOCEDS, Comrade Paul Okoli, alongside the Director of Socials, Onyedikachi Chukwudi, who officially presented the plaque on behalf of the Association.”

While dedicating the award to students of the Faculty who considered him worthy of their nomination, confidence and votes, Alonta described the award as constant reminder of the importance of “every lecture delivered, every word of encouragement shared, every assignment marked and every effort made to support their academic and personal development.”

“I equally dedicate this recognition to my esteemed colleagues in the Faculty of Technology and Vocational Education.

“Every day, we labour together with a shared commitment to producing graduates who are not only academically sound but also morally upright, professionally competent and worthy ambassadors of our great University.

“This award belongs to all of us who continue to believe that education is ultimately about transforming lives,” he noted.

The awardee further commended leadership and members of AVOCEDS for conceiving the initiative, saying recognition of excellence among lecturers remained a thoughtful way of strengthening the bond between students and teachers while encouraging greater commitment to quality teaching and mentorship.

“For me, this recognition is both humbling and inspiring. It challenges me to do even more in shaping lives, supporting students and contributing meaningfully to the advancement of the University community.

“This award also reminds me of another memorable milestone in my academic journey. In 2023, I was privileged to receive the Vice-Chancellor’s Award as the Best Academic Staff of Nnamdi Azikiwe University.

“Receiving this latest recognition directly from my students makes it even more special because it reflects the voices of those whose lives and futures remain the very essence of my calling as a teacher.

“To every student who believed in me, thank you,” he quipped.
