The Anambra State Government has finalized plans to produce globally competitive nurses with a new Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) entered into by the Anambra State College of Nursing Science and the Canadian Education Council (CEC), Dr. Afam Obidike, the Anambra State Commissioner for Health, revealed. According to the Commissioner for Health, this is a pleasant development that is at the centre of Governor Soludo’s drive for a livable and prosperous homeland. The MoU, which provides for up-skilling of nursing students at the State-owned College of Nursing Science, also made provision for global standard exposure of the students to current technical nursing know-how.

Nursing students at the Anambra State College of Nursing Science, from their second year, will, by this MoU, be exposed to global best practices, and by their final year, there is a provision for a six-month international internship in Canada. The MoU provides for “establishing a variety of professional and academic collaborative arrangements to build capacity.” This directly speaks to Governor Soludo’s ambitious agenda on health care delivery and human capital development, with a clear mandate to ensure first-class health care delivery as well as globally competitive human capital. The MoU also outlined CEC’s commitment to equipping nurses in training at the Anambra State College of Nursing Science with “essential skills for securing employment with private and public institutions across the globe.”

More so, the MoU further noted that CEC would provide support and career development services through the International Career Center, international employability, access to the Canadian International Employment License Certificate Programme, access to both remote and in-person employment opportunities globally, among others.

With this development, Anambra has again taken a bold leap towards realizing Governor Soludo’s Dubai-Taiwan development model, which is anchored on globally competitive human capital.
