Three suspects have been remanded in correctional facilities in Anambra state over alleged incest, rape and defilement.

 

Police spokesperson, Tochukwu Ikenga who disclosed this on Thursday said the suspects were arraigned on the separate charges following conclusion of police investigations.

He listed the suspects as Ikenna Mojekwu facing charges of alleged incest for reportedly engaging in unlawful sexual acts with his 14-year old daughter in Aguluzoigbo and Chukwuma Emenike (16) arraigned on allegations of defiling an 8-year-old girl in Umuoji.

 

“Also arraigned was Chibuike Ikemelu, who is alleged to have had unlawful sexual intercourse with a 14-year-old girl, resulting in pregnancy in Abatete,” he said.

 

According to Ikenga, the suspects were arraigned after investigations and were remanded in accordance with the orders of the court, adding that the matters had been adjourned to later dates for further hearing.

 

“Anambra State Police Command has continued to demonstrate its commitment to protecting vulnerable persons and ensuring justice for victims of sexual and gender-based violence with the arraignment of three suspects before the Gender Magistrate Court sitting in Awka on Wednesday, July 15, 2026.

 

“To this end, the Command reiterates its resolve to investigate and diligently prosecute all cases involving sexual and gender-based violence and further encourages victims and members of the public to promptly report such offences.

 

“The Command assures that every report will be treated with the seriousness it deserves while safeguarding the rights of victims and ensuring due process,” he added.
