Speaking to newsmen on Wednesday, Sector Commander, Corps Commander Bridget Asekhauno said the 3-day operation is holding simultaneously across the twelve Zones in the country.

Asekhauno, represented by Officer in Charge of Motor Vehicle Administration, DCC Ezeugwu Gloria said the exercise is aimed at sensitizing motoring public on road safety rules as well as checkmating drivers’ excesses on the roads.

According to her, a total of 27 offenders were arrested for overloading, 34 for speed limiting device, 10 for driving license violation, while four were arrested for attempting to corrupt Marshal on duty.

She further revealed that two drivers were arrested for dangerous driving and driving under the influence of drugs/alcohol respectively.

She said, “The essence of the exercise is to checkmate drivers’ excesses, including overloading and mixed loading.

“Loading human and animals or goods is a weapon on its own and can be disastrous in any eventuality. If you want to load goods, don’t combine them with human beings.

“We’re also focusing on drivers operating without speed limiting device. Even some that have the device installed, deactivate it to enable them increase their speed.

“Again, some operate without valid drivers license, while others drive under influence of alcohol. All these and other traffic offenses capable of endangering human lives are our targets during the period.

“We’re using enforcement, mobile courts to prosecute offenders as well as public enlightenment to ensure all necessary information regarding safety rules reach the grassroots.”

While warning motorists against dangers of traffic offenses, Sector Commander urged them to take advantage of the exercise to embrace safety precautions to guarantee safer roads in the state.

“This is opportunity for us to prepare ourselves ahead of ember months. Road safety is everybody’s business. Our roads can only be safe if drivers and passengers do their parts while FRSC does its part,” she added.
