The Government of Anambra State has issued a public notice informing the public to comply with the Physical Planning Regulation mandating setbacks along highways and expressways in Anambra State. This notice reflects Governor Charles Chukwuma Soludo’s vision of a livable and prosperous homeland. Specifically, the Solution Agenda pledged to ensure planning of Anambra cities and communities, as part of the broader environmental action to safeguard Anambra’s future.

A circular containing the public notice issued and signed by the Anambra State Commissioner for Physical Planning and Urban Development, Barr. Chijioke Ojukwu, emphasized that the general public, particularly property owners and developers, should take notice and endeavour to comply with the setbacks mandated by the law. “Section 10 of the Anambra State Physical Planning Regulation No. 10, Vol. 26, of 2015, prescribes a mandatory setback from the right of way along our roads…on highways, buildings shall be set back from right of way at least 6.0 metres. On expressways, buildings shall be set back at least 42.55 metres or 55 metres from the centre line of the median of the expressway,” Barr Ojukwu noted.

Consequently, the Commissioner informs the general public to “desist from setting up illegal buildings, shanties or any obstructions within the setbacks of the right of way along the roads”. This, Barr. Ojukwu said, is because “The Anambra State Government is resolute about clearing all such illegal obstructions.”
