The Anambra State Commissioner for Budget and Economic Planning, Hon. Chukwukadibia Okoye, on Wednesday, inaugurated the 2027 Anambra State Budget Committee. The event, which was held at the Inter Agency Board Room of the Ministry of Budget and Economic Planning of the Anambra State Secretariat in Awka, was attended by key staff members of the Ministry of Budget, representatives of various sectors, and other key stakeholders.
During the inauguration, the Commissioner, Mr. Chukwukadibia Okoye, charged the members of the committee to undertake assigned responsibilities with focus. This, the Commissioner said, is to ensure that the outcome of the Committee’s input in the 2027 Anambra State budget carries sufficient weight to drive the Solution Agenda of the Governor, Professor Charles Chukwuma Soludo.
According to the Commissioner, the 2027 budget finds expression in a transparent process, discipline, and integrity, and given the critical importance of the budget in governance deliverables, the committee members were urged by the Honourable Commissioner to demonstrate utmost commitment, teamwork, and ownership throughout the process. The Commissioner further urged the Committee Members to equally prioritize evidence-based project selection that properly considers the people’s needs and aspirations. He also called on the Committee Members to be mindful and ensure that projects are selected based on merit.
Pointing out some key challenges such as erosion menace, the Commissioner, Mr. Chukwukadibia Okoye, observed that early budget preparation, synergy among Ministries, Departments and Agencies of the government, accurate costing and realistic projections are some of the very essential drivers of the budget process from conception to implementation.
