The Anambra State Internal Revenue Service (AIRS) has set a target of generating ₦75 billion in Internally Generated Revenue (IGR), an increase from the ₦47 billion realised in 2025, through expanded tax coverage, improved electronic payment systems and measures to eliminate revenue leakages.

The Chairman of AIRS, Mr. Nnaemeka Okonkwo, disclosed this while appearing before the Public Accounts Committee of the Anambra State House of Assembly during the verification of the state’s audited accounts for the financial year ended December 31, 2025.

Okonkwo explained that the agency intends to achieve the new revenue target by broadening the state’s tax base, strengthening electronic tax payment platforms and plugging leakages across both the formal and informal sectors of the economy.

He said the revenue enhancement strategy is designed to improve tax compliance, increase efficiency in revenue collection and strengthen the state’s financial capacity to fund development projects.

Speaking during the exercise, the Chairman of the House Committee on Public Accounts, Honourable Noble Igwe, said the review of the audited accounts is part of the committee’s constitutional responsibility to promote transparency, accountability and prudent management of public funds across ministries, departments and agencies (MDAs).

Honourable Igwe, who represents Ogbaru Constituency I, assured officials appearing before the committee that the verification exercise was not intended to victimise any agency but to examine financial records, ensure compliance with established financial regulations and encourage responsible management of public resources.

Following the examination of their financial records, the committee cleared the Anambra State Internal Revenue Service (AIRS), the Ministry of Power and the Ministry of Housing after finding their submissions satisfactory.
