Relief for Nnewi motorists, residents as FRSC fills dangerous potholes on roads

Road users and residents have commended the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Nnewi Unit Command, Anambra state for carrying out palliative work on dangerous potholes along Ikemba Drive, Umuele Road, Umudim, Nnewi, the industrial city of the state.

 

The Command had filled dangerous potholes along the major road in a proactive effort to prevent road crashes and ensure safer travel for motorists.

They described the intervention as timely, impactful and life-saving.

 

The Unit Commander, Assistant Corps Commander Asochukwu Damian said the exercise, carried out under the initiative “Safety on Nnewi Roads” targeted a critical black spot that had posed a serious risk to road users.

 

He said the intervention became necessary following worsening condition of the road, which serves key locations including the Nnamdi Azikiwe University Teaching Hospital (NAUTH) Permanent Site and the Customary Court, Nnewi.

 

On her part, Sector Commander, FRSC Anambra State Command, Corps Commander Bridget Asekhauno commended the Nnewi Unit Command for the swift and proactive intervention.

 

She described the initiative as a commendable demonstration of the Corps’ commitment to saving lives and preventing avoidable crashes.

 

While reaffirming the Command’s commitment to proactive road safety measures, public enlightenment, and collaboration with stakeholders to ensure safer roads, Asekhauno urged sustained collaboration with relevant authorities to ensure permanent rehabilitation of the road.

 

“The action by the Nnewi Unit Command is a preventive measure aimed at reducing crash risks. We call on the Nnewi North Local Government Council to carry out a permanent repair of the road,” she appealed.
