The Anambra State Command of the Nigeria Police Force has introduced a strategic monitoring mechanism through the Command’s Operational Control Rooms to closely supervise police checkpoints, patrol teams and other operational activities across the state.

The initiative, according to a statement issued on Sunday by the Police Public Relations Officer of the Anambra State Police Command, Awka, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, followed feedback received during the recent Anambra Security Stakeholders’ Interactive Sessions held across the state’s three senatorial districts.

Ikenga said the initiative was designed to strengthen effective policing, accountability and professionalism while eliminating extortion, harassment and other forms of abuse against members of the public by police personnel.

“Under the new strategy, the Command’s Operational Control Rooms will maintain closer oversight of patrol formations and checkpoints, with Area Commanders, Divisional Police Officers and Tactical Team Commanders expected to account for the activities of personnel deployed to strategic locations. Reports and complaints relating to misconduct, extortion or other forms of unprofessional conduct will be promptly received, monitored and escalated for necessary action,” he said.

He quoted the Commissioner of Police, CP Nnanna Oji Ama, as stressing that while the Command remains committed to providing effective security and protecting the lives and property of Ndi Anambra and other residents, no police officer would be permitted to abuse the authority entrusted to him or her by the Nigeria Police Force to exploit members of the public.

According to Ikenga, the Commissioner further directed all Area Commanders, Divisional Police Officers and Tactical Team Commanders to ensure strict compliance with the directive.

He warned that any personnel found engaging in extortion, harassment or other forms of misconduct would face appropriate disciplinary measures in accordance with the law and established regulations.

The Command therefore called on Ndi Anambra and other members of the public to support the initiative by reporting incidents of extortion, harassment or other unprofessional conduct through its established communication channels.

Members of the public can contact the Command’s Operational Control Room on 07039194332, the Police Public Relations Officer on 08039334002, or the Commissioner of Police through the Command’s dedicated WhatsApp number on 09169531886.

The Command reiterated its commitment to professional, people-oriented and accountable policing, assuring members of the public that credible complaints would receive prompt attention and appropriate action.
