The Labour Party Senatorial Candidate for Anambra Central, Ven. Tochukwu Sagacious Ikezue, has congratulated Comrade Uche Kalu, Director of Media and Communications to the Labour Party Senatorial Campaign on her recognition with the 2026 Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Anambra State Council Long-Term Professional Service Award.
The award was presented to Comrade Kalu during the 35th Anniversary and Press Week celebration of the NUJ, Anambra State Council, on Thursday, September 10.
Ikezue described the recognition as a well-deserved honour that reflected Kalu’s decades of dedication, professionalism and sacrifice to journalism and public communication.
He said her contributions had helped shape public discourse through truth, balance and integrity, adding that her consistency and commitment had earned her recognition within the journalism profession.
He also commended the Chairman of NUJ Anambra State Council, Comrade Odogwu Emeka Odogwu, for acknowledging Kalu’s sacrifices and contributions to the growth of journalism in the state.
The LP candidate, who was represented by the Director-General of the Campaign Council, Dr. Okechukwu Ferdinand Nwuche, further commended Kalu for her commitment, diligence and dedication in her capacity as Director of Media and Communications.
According to Ikezue, “the campaign’s philosophy of “Politics Without Bitterness” recognises the media as a vital partner in the promotion and strengthening of democracy.
“Kalu’s professionalism, discipline and passion for her responsibilities exemplified the values underpinning the campaign’s commitment to constructive and responsible political engagement.
Describing the award as significant recognition of her commitment to truth, dedicated service and advancement of journalism andmedia profession in the State, LP Senatorial hopeful urged the awardee to remain committed to excellence and continue contributing to journalism and public service as the campaign advances its mission of “rescuing and representing” the people.
Kalu, while reacting to the recognition, expressed delight and gratitude to God and the NUJ for the honour, describing it as both a recognition of her years of service and an encouragement to remain committed to the journalism profession.
She said, “I feel deeply honoured and grateful to God for receiving the Long-Term Professional Service Award from the Nigeria Union of Journalists, Anambra State Council.
“For me, the award is not just a recognition of years of service, but also an encouragement to remain committed to the journalism profession and continue to contribute meaningfully to society.”
Comrade Kalu appreciated the NUJ for recognising and celebrating the contributions of journalists, while encouraging female journalists in the State to remain courageous, professional and resilient in the discharge of their duties.
”Although journalism comes with its challenges, the voices and contributions of women remain important.
“Female practitioners must continue to uphold truth, integrity and professionalism while creating opportunities for more women to excel in the profession,” she added.
