The Anambra State Government has reaffirmed that the 18-35-year age bracket will be strictly enforced across all youth development programmes, youth organizations, and leadership structures in the state, effective January 1, 2027.
This was contained in a press release issued by the Special Adviser to the Governor on Youth Reformation, Dr. Nelson Omenugha, on October 15, 2026.
According to the statement, the policy seeks to ensure that youth-focused opportunities reach their intended beneficiaries, promote fairness, strengthen participation, and create space for emerging leaders to develop their leadership capacity.
The government directed all youth organizations, associations, and relevant institutions to review and regularize their membership, leadership structures, and operational guidelines to ensure full compliance before the deadline.
“From January 1, 2027, the Ministry of Youth Development and relevant government agencies will not recognize youth organizations that fail to comply with the stipulated age bracket,” the statement read.
The directive aligns with the youth reformation agenda of Governor Charles Chukwuma Soludo’s administration, which seeks to build a disciplined, productive, and values-driven generation of young people.
While recognizing the importance of mentorship, the government emphasized that positions specifically reserved for youths must be occupied by eligible persons within the prescribed age bracket.
“The policy is not intended to exclude citizens above 35 from contributing to youth development. Rather, it protects opportunities for eligible young people while encouraging experienced citizens to provide mentorship, guidance, and support,” Omenugha stated.
He urged stakeholders to use the transition period to make necessary adjustments ahead of the deadline.
